Record Number of Veterans Receive Hospice... The Department of Veterans Affairs is providing hospice and palliative care to a growing number of veterans throughout the country, reported the VA in a press release issued on January 8. The average daily number of veterans receiving hospice care in their homes, paid for by VA, increased by 30 percent in 2007. In addition, the number of veterans treated in VA's inpatient hospice beds rose to nearly 9,000 veterans last year, an increase of 21 percent. One of the valuable resources produced by the National Hospice Veteran Partnership and NHPCO is the HVP/VA 101 Toolkit, an online collection of documents and PowerPoint slide sets compiled to provide background information and resources. VA contracts with community-based hospice programs to enhance VA's ability to provide services. If you wish to learn more about working with VA; additional information is available at www.nhpco.org/veterans.
